Navantia and Royal Caribbean Strengthen Strategic Alliance with New Framework Agreement

On April 15, 2025, Navantia SA and Royal Caribbean Group formalized a Framework Agreement at RCG’s headquarters in Miami, strengthening their long-standing collaboration. This agreement outlines future projects focused on dry-dock ship repairs and refurbishments.

The partnership between Navantia and RCG dates back to 2011 with the refurbishment of the Splendour of the Seas, which is now known as Marella Discovery. Since then, Navantia’s facility in Cádiz has serviced over 25 vessels from the Royal Caribbean fleet, including ships from Celebrity Cruises and Azamara. This history showcases Navantia’s significant role in the cruise ship repair sector.

As part of the renewed agreement, the Allure of the Seas is currently undergoing a major 42-day refurbishment at Navantia’s Cádiz facility. This project involves an investment of over EUR 91.5 million and includes over 14,000 tasks. These tasks range from machinery overhauls and cabin renovations to upgrades of public areas like bars, terraces, pools, and the ship’s 10-story slide.

The Allure of the Seas had also been serviced at Navantia in 2015 and 2020, indicating a consistent and robust collaboration. This refurbishment is part of Royal Caribbean’s Royal Amplified program, launched in 2018 to enhance guest experiences across ten of its ships.

Upon completion, the Allure of the Seas will operate 7-night Mediterranean itineraries from Barcelona, calling at ports such as Marseille, La Spezia, Civitavecchia, and Palma de Mallorca. The vessel is set to reposition to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in November 2025 to begin Caribbean cruises.
