Silversea Wraps Up Its 2024-2025 Antarctica Expedition Season
Silversea Cruises has successfully concluded its 2024-2025 Antarctic expedition season, having operated 34 voyages from October 29, 2024, to March 31, 2025. Three of its expedition vessels—Silver Endeavour, Silver Cloud, and Silver Wind—provided travelers with in-depth explorations of Antarctica’s pristine landscape, solidifying the company’s foothold in the ultra-luxury expedition market.
Bert Hernandez, President of Silversea, emphasized that the recent season offered various enriching experiences, including new landing spots, remarkable wildlife interactions, and guided adventures led by the expert Expedition Team. This season has showcased Silversea’s commitment to providing outstanding polar exploration experiences.
Looking ahead, Silversea is set to launch a 150-room hotel in Puerto Williams, Chile, which will be the southernmost hotel on Earth. This establishment aims to enhance the Antarctica Fly-Cruise model by facilitating smoother transitions between air travel and cruise boarding, thereby improving overall guest comfort and operational logistics. The hotel is anticipated to open in time for the 2025-2026 Antarctica season.
During the 2024-2025 season, Silversea offered a variety of itineraries, ranging from 6-day Fly-Cruise expeditions on the Silver Endeavour to more extensive 21-day explorations across the Southern Ocean. Noteworthy highlights included:
- The Silver Endeavour’s navigation through Crystal Sound and the Antarctic Circle on March 1, which included various excursions such as Zodiac tours and kayaking, culminating in landings at Detaille Island and Historic Base W.
- The Silver Wind’s multiple landings at Intercurrence Island within the Christiana Islands—a new addition to the itinerary made possible by an exploratory mission in 2023 that charted 2,700 nautical miles and identified 22 new landing sites. Guests enjoyed sightings of icebergs and marine wildlife.
- Across the fleet, Silversea hosted 28 polar plunge events with nearly 2,300 participants, and guests frequently spotted whales, including a rare sighting of beaked whales in Wilhelmina Bay and more than 50 fin whales near Elephant Island during excursions.
Silversea’s Expedition Team, featuring up to 28 specialists per voyage, including naturalists and historians, provided unparalleled guest-to-staff engagement and thorough interpretations of Antarctica’s ecosystems and history.
With its pioneering history in luxury expedition cruising, Silversea is committed to expanding its polar offerings. The upcoming hotel in Puerto Williams promises scenic views of the Beagle Channel and Patagonian mountain ranges, embodying an environmentally conscious design that honors the local culture and architecture.
