HAL-Holland America Announces Return to Dover, UK with MS Nieuw Statendam in 2025

HAL-Holland America Line has initiated its first UK-based cruise season in over ten years with the MS Nieuw Statendam. This Pinnacle-class vessel has embarked on a 14-night journey to the Canary Islands, Morocco, and Portugal, departing from Dover, UK. A total of ten roundtrip departures from Dover are planned through September 2025, featuring itineraries that span 14 to 42 days. Destinations on the itinerary include popular locations such as the British Isles, Norway, Iceland, Greenland, Iberia, and the eastern Mediterranean.

To celebrate this occasion, Holland America Line hosted a British-themed dinner aboard Nieuw Statendam for its predominantly UK, Netherlands, and US guests. In addition, the cruise line has made a charitable contribution by donating 200 Lindt Easter bunnies to the Dover SmART Project, which supports disadvantaged children, including young carers. This initiative is in line with Holland America Line’s partnership with Lindt, which features their chocolates in gift shops, dessert menus, and special onboard events.

Karen Farndell, the UK Director of Sales and Marketing at Holland America Line, stated that the return to Dover signifies a considerable step for the company, driven by growing demand from guests opting to start their cruises from the UK. Peter Wright, Head of Cruise at the Port of Dover, expressed optimism that the arrival of Nieuw Statendam would attract thousands of visitors, invigorating the local community.

Looking ahead, Nieuw Statendam is anticipated to return to Dover for the 2026 season, operating from April to October. This season will offer a mix of seven- and 14-day European cruises, including destinations like the Norwegian fjords, Iceland, and the Canary Islands. By the end of 2025, Holland America Line plans to serve nine European ports with 68 departures and 62 overnight or late-night stops.
