Royal Caribbean Suspends Visits to Labadee, Haiti: What You Need to Know
Royal Caribbean International has made the decision to suspend visits to its private island resort, Labadee in Haiti, due to rising security concerns in the area. This step comes amid an alarming increase in crime, gang-related activities, and civil instability within the country, which has prompted the U.S. Department of State to issue a Level 4 travel advisory, recommending against travel to Haiti due to risks including kidnapping, crime, and civil unrest.
Labadee has long been a popular destination for Royal Caribbean’s fleet, but as a precaution, the cruise line announced it would temporarily halt all visits. The company has communicated the changes directly to guests whose itineraries were affected.
Around twelve Royal Caribbean vessels had scheduled stops at Labadee, mainly departing from Florida’s Fort Lauderdale, Miami, and Port Canaveral. There is currently no indication of whether alternative destinations will be offered in place of Labadee.
Previously, Labadee was favored by families for its attractions, such as a rollercoaster, waterslides, and various water-based recreational activities, making it a standout beach resort in the Caribbean.
