Port Roenne on Bornholm Island Expands Infrastructure with a New Cruise Pier

Port Roenne on Bornholm Island, Denmark, is enhancing its cruise infrastructure with the construction of a new pier measuring 374 meters in length and 11 meters in depth, scheduled for completion by fall 2025. This upgrade aims to accommodate larger vessels and improve operational efficiency in the harbor.

The new pier will replace the existing berths that have been in use for the past three years, which are being reallocated for other commercial purposes. Additionally, the port is modifying its current cruise pier by removing inner breakwaters and extending the southern outer breakwater to create smoother navigational conditions.

Located about a 15-minute walk from Destination Bornholm’s visitor center and roughly 20 minutes from the main square of the city center, the new pier is strategically placed to offer easy access for passengers to local attractions. Port authorities project around 70 cruise calls this year, reflecting a 150% increase since 2015.

To address environmental concerns, a working group has been set up to investigate the potential implementation of Onshore Power Supply (OPS) at the new pier. Although a timeline for this initiative has not been established, port authorities are optimistic about its progress.
