NCL Norwegian Bliss Alaskan Cruise Disrupted by Multiple Medical Emergencies
A recent 7-day cruise aboard the Norwegian Bliss in Alaska faced disruption due to multiple medical emergencies, leading to the involvement of the US Coast Guard for evacuations. The most serious incident involved a 54-year-old male passenger who exhibited stroke-like symptoms. He was airlifted near Cape Flattery, Washington, and was later treated at Olympic Medical Center through local emergency services.
This incident was just one of several medical situations reported during the cruise. Passengers shared accounts online, highlighting how the voyage seemed particularly marked by health issues. An early incident required a passenger to disembark shortly after departing from the initial port, using a small boat for the evacuation. Later, a delay occurred in Skagway due to another medical issue, and just prior to arriving in Victoria, British Columbia, a second airlift was executed.
In addition to external evacuations, the onboard medical team addressed several emergencies throughout the cruise in public areas like the Savor Restaurant and fitness center. Passengers praised the crew’s swift and effective response to the medical situations.
While NCL Norwegian Cruise Line has yet to issue an official statement regarding these events, the incidents underscore the importance of medical readiness on large passenger vessels operating in remote locales like Alaska.
