MSC Orchestra Rescues 16 Algerian Nationals on Journey to Cagliari, Italy
In the early hours of May 12, 2025, the MSC Orchestra, while navigating from Ibiza (Spain) to Sardinia on a scheduled Western Mediterranean itinerary, spotted a small motorboat adrift near the southwestern coast of Sant’Antioco (Sardinia). The detection occurred around 02:00 a.m. local time as the ship made its way to Cagliari.
Upon noticing the drifting vessel, the crew on the Navigation Bridge followed standard maritime safety protocols to evaluate the situation. They discovered that the motorboat was occupied by sixteen Algerian nationals, including three minors and a woman. The occupants were found to be in stable condition and did not pose any security risk. Following the assessment, they were safely brought aboard the MSC Orchestra.
After the rescue, the ship continued its journey to Port Cagliari, where local authorities received the group. Medical evaluations confirmed that all individuals were in good health, and they were later taken to the First Reception Center in Monastir for identification and immigration processing. The MSC Orchestra continued its voyage through the Western Mediterranean later after this successful rescue operation.
