Thoth’s Viking Ship Set to Sail: Anticipation Builds for 2025 Nile River Deployment in Egypt
Viking has achieved a pivotal construction milestone with the float-out of the Viking Thoth, its latest Nile River vessel. This significant event took place at the Massara Shipyard in Cairo, marking the vessel’s first introduction to water. The Viking Thoth, designed to accommodate 82 guests across 41 staterooms, is a sister ship to several others in Viking’s fleet, including the Viking Osiris, Viking Aton, Viking Sobek, Viking Hathor, and the upcoming Viking Amun.
The delivery of the Viking Thoth is anticipated for October 2025, at which point it will commence operations on Viking’s 12-day "Pharaohs & Pyramids" itinerary. This journey begins with a three-night hotel stay in Cairo, where guests can visit iconic sites such as the Great Pyramids of Giza, Saqqara, and the Grand Egyptian Museum. The itinerary then includes a flight to Luxor for an eight-day roundtrip cruise that features notable stops including the Temples of Karnak, the Valley of the Kings, and excursions to cultural sites, including a Nubian village.
Torstein Hagen, Viking’s Chairman and CEO, emphasized Egypt’s importance as a cultural destination and the company’s ongoing investment in the region. With the addition of the Viking Thoth and Viking Amun, the fleet in Egypt is set to grow to twelve ships by 2027, further enhancing Viking’s service on the Nile River.
