Greenock Cruise Port Opens Operations Under GPH-Global Ports Holding: A New Era for Scottish Cruising

On May 5, 2025, Greenock Cruise Port officially began operations under the management of Global Ports Holding (GPH) with the arrival of the MSC Preziosa. This marked a significant moment as it was the port’s inaugural cruise call as part of GPH’s global network, following a 50-year agreement signed in March 2025 with Clydeport Operations Limited, a subsidiary of Peel Ports Group.

The arrival of MSC Preziosa was witnessed by several key figures, including Captain Lorenzo Sapeti, Ian Kay from Liverpool Cruise Port, and Gary Lyons from Denholm Port Services. To welcome the passengers, local bagpiper John MacInnes provided a traditional Scottish greeting.

John Mawer, the General Manager of Greenock and Liverpool Cruise Ports, emphasized that this first cruise call under GPH’s stewardship was a major milestone for Greenock, reflecting the collaborative efforts of all involved. He expressed optimism about the port’s future contributions to the local economy and the tourism sector.

Located strategically on the Firth of Clyde, about 25 miles west of Glasgow, Greenock Cruise Port provides access to major Scottish attractions such as Edinburgh, Loch Lomond, and the Scottish Highlands. The port is equipped with a dedicated cruise terminal that accommodates vessels up to 340 meters long, with a quay depth of 10 meters. Its proximity to Glasgow International Airport, just 26 kilometers away, allows for easy connectivity for cruise passengers.
