Chicago Welcomes Great Lakes Cruising with the Christening of Victory II at Navy Pier
On May 12, 2025, the Victory II was officially christened at Chicago’s Navy Pier, an event that marked a new chapter for the city in terms of Great Lakes cruising. This christening ceremony was a first for an overnight cruise ship at the iconic location and was led by John Waggoner, the founder and CEO of Victory Cruise Lines, which is now part of AQV-American Queen Voyages. His granddaughter, Molly Applegate, served as the ship’s godmother, highlighting a cherished family tradition in maritime celebrations.
The Victory II is a 300-foot vessel designed for upscale experiences, accommodating 190 passengers and a crew of 92. Its itineraries will feature notable destinations like Mackinac Island, Sault Ste. Marie, Detroit, Cleveland, Niagara Falls, and Toronto, allowing guests to explore the beautiful landscape of all five Great Lakes.
Victory Cruise Lines holds exclusive docking rights at Navy Pier, which bolsters Chicago’s position as a cruise destination. In 2025, the cruise line plans to offer 33 sailings, each ranging from 10 to 15 nights, departing from various cities, including Chicago, Toronto, Milwaukee, and Montreal.
The introduction of the Victory II represents a significant addition to Great Lakes cruising, providing a unique opportunity to experience the region’s rich maritime heritage and stunning natural scenery.
