Viking Thoth Ship Set to Make Waves: Ahead of 2025 Nile River Deployment in Egypt

Viking has marked a significant achievement in shipbuilding with the float-out of its newest vessel for the Nile River, the Viking Thoth, at the Massara Shipyard in Cairo, Egypt. This milestone showcases the ship’s first introduction to water, indicating its progression into the final construction stages. The Viking Thoth is set to be delivered in October 2025 and will commence operations on Viking’s "Pharaohs & Pyramids" 12-day itinerary.

With a capacity for 82 guests across 41 staterooms, Viking Thoth represents the latest enhancement in Viking’s growing fleet in Egypt, which will total 12 ships by 2027. The ship’s design follows the aesthetic of its sister vessels, including Viking Osiris, Viking Aton, and Viking Sobek, incorporating Scandinavian design elements along with distinctive features such as a square bow and the Aquavit Terrace.

Viking’s Chairman and CEO, Torstein Hagen, noted the strategic importance of Egypt as a cultural destination, highlighting the company’s ongoing commitment to investment in the region. The introduction of Viking Thoth and Viking Amun in 2025 is part of a broader strategy to amplify capacity and improve service along the Nile.

The "Pharaohs & Pyramids" itinerary begins with a three-night hotel stay in Cairo, offering guests the opportunity to see the Great Pyramids of Giza, the Saqqara necropolis, and the Grand Egyptian Museum. This is followed by a flight to Luxor for an eight-day roundtrip cruise that includes sights such as the Karnak and Luxor Temples, the Valley of the Kings and Queens, and the iconic Abu Simbel. The journey also incorporates cultural trips to a Nubian village and the High Dam at Aswan, concluding with an overnight stay back in Cairo.
