Chicago Welcomes Great Lakes Cruising with the Christening of Victory II at Navy Pier

On May 12, 2025, Victory Cruise Lines officially launched their vessel, Victory II, at Chicago’s Navy Pier. This event marked a milestone as the first overnight cruise ship christening at this renowned location. The ceremony was led by John Waggoner, the founder and CEO of Victory Cruise Lines, with his granddaughter, Molly Applegate, taking on the role of ship’s godmother—a nod to family traditions in maritime celebrations.

Victory II is designed for luxurious travel, measuring 300 feet long and accommodating 190 passengers with a crew of 92. It will navigate the picturesque Great Lakes, making stops at notable destinations such as Mackinac Island, Sault Ste. Marie, Detroit, Cleveland, Niagara Falls, and Toronto, enabling travelers to fully experience the essence of these five lakes.

Notably, Victory Cruise Lines boasts exclusive docking rights at Navy Pier, placing Chicago firmly on the map as a significant cruise hub. In 2025, the line has plans for 33 voyages, ranging from 10 to 15 nights, departing from cities such as Chicago, Toronto, Milwaukee, and Montreal.

The christening of Victory II ushers in a new chapter for Great Lakes cruising, offering passengers a unique chance to immerse themselves in the cultural and natural beauty of the region.
