Viking Thoth Ship Set to Float Ahead of 2025 Nile River Deployment in Egypt
Viking has marked a major milestone in the construction of its new Nile River vessel, the Viking Thoth, with its float-out from the Massara Shipyard in Cairo, Egypt. This significant event introduces the 82-guest ship to water for the first time, signaling its progression into the final construction phase.
Scheduled for delivery in October 2025, the Viking Thoth will operate the 12-day "Pharaohs & Pyramids" itinerary. Once in service, it will join Viking’s expanding fleet, which anticipates reaching 12 ships on the Nile River by 2027. With accommodations for 82 guests across 41 staterooms, the ship is designed similarly to its sister vessels, including the Viking Osiris and Viking Aton, featuring a Scandinavian-inspired interior, a square bow, and the Aquavit Terrace.
Viking’s Chairman and CEO, Torstein Hagen, highlighted the strategic importance of Egypt as a cultural destination and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to the region with long-term investments, including the Viking Thoth and the upcoming Viking Amun in 2025.
The "Pharaohs & Pyramids" itinerary will kick off with a 3-night hotel stay in Cairo, allowing guests to explore the Great Pyramids of Giza, the necropolis of Saqqara, and the Grand Egyptian Museum. Following this, a flight to Luxor will lead to an 8-day roundtrip cruise, featuring notable sites such as the Temples of Karnak, the Valley of the Kings and Queens, and Abu Simbel. Cultural excursions will include visits to a Nubian village and the High Dam at Aswan, finishing with an overnight stay back in Cairo.
