Victory II Christened at Navy Pier: Chicago’s New Era in Great Lakes Cruising Begins

On May 12, 2025, Victory Cruise Lines celebrated the christening of the Victory II at Chicago’s Navy Pier, making it the first overnight cruise ship to be launched at this historic venue. The ceremony was led by John Waggoner, the founder and CEO of the company, with his granddaughter, Molly Applegate, ceremoniously serving as the ship’s godmother, continuing a family tradition.

The Victory II is a 300-foot long, 190-passenger ship featuring a crew of 92, tailored for upscale cruising on the Great Lakes. Its routes include notable destinations such as Mackinac Island, Sault Ste. Marie, Detroit, Cleveland, Niagara Falls, and Toronto, providing passengers a chance to explore all five Great Lakes.

Victory Cruise Lines holds exclusive docking rights at Navy Pier, thereby enhancing Chicago’s standing as a cruise destination. The company has outlined plans for 33 sailings in 2025, with journey durations ranging from 10 to 15 nights, departing from locations including Chicago, Toronto, Milwaukee, and Montreal.

The christening of the Victory II highlights a pivotal moment for Great Lakes cruising, allowing travelers to immerse themselves in the rich maritime heritage and the stunning landscapes of the region.
