Viking Thoth Ship Set to Make Waves: Ahead of 2025 Nile River Deployment in Egypt

Viking has successfully floated out its newest Nile River vessel, the Viking Thoth, marking a pivotal moment in its construction at the Massara Shipyard in Cairo, Egypt. This event introduces the 82-guest ship to water for the first time, illustrating its progression into the last phase of building.

Set for delivery in October 2025, Viking Thoth will soon embark on Viking’s 12-day "Pharaohs & Pyramids" itinerary. This addition to Viking’s fleet underscores the company’s commitment to expanding its presence in Egypt, intending to operate a total of 12 ships on the Nile River by 2027. The Viking Thoth will host 82 guests across 41 staterooms and will mirror the design elements of its sister ships, which include Viking Osiris, Viking Aton, Viking Sobek, Viking Hathor, and the upcoming Viking Amun. With features inspired by Scandinavian design, the ship includes a square bow and the signature Aquavit Terrace found across Viking’s river and ocean fleet.

Torstein Hagen, Viking’s Chairman and CEO, highlighted the importance of Egypt as a cultural destination in the company’s strategy, reflecting on the ongoing investments in the region through the introduction of both Viking Thoth and Viking Amun in 2025.

The "Pharaohs & Pyramids" itinerary kicks off with a three-night hotel stay in Cairo, giving guests the chance to see the Great Pyramids of Giza, the necropolis at Saqqara, and the Grand Egyptian Museum. Following this, a flight to Luxor allows travelers to board the ship for an eight-day roundtrip cruise, which includes visits to the Temples of Karnak and Luxor, as well as the Valley of the Kings and Queens, and Abu Simbel. Cultural excursions such as visiting a Nubian village and the High Dam at Aswan add depth to the journey, which concludes with another overnight stay in Cairo.
