Tragic Pediatric Medical Incident Strikes Costa Toscana During Mediterranean Cruise
On May 19, 2025, a tragic incident occurred aboard the Costa Toscana ship as it traveled between Civitavecchia and Savona in the Mediterranean. A two-year-old boy, who was traveling with his parents, collapsed while playing on the ship. Despite the immediate response from the ship’s medical team, resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful, and the child was pronounced dead.
The boy was the son of a Chinese couple living in France and had previously undergone heart surgery. While he had shown no signs of distress throughout the cruise, Italian media reported that his death was likely related to his existing heart condition.
Following the incident, the Costa Toscana continued its journey to Savona. Upon arrival, local authorities conducted interviews with the medical staff, crew, passengers, and the child’s family to gather information about the tragedy. Preliminary investigations suggest that the child died of natural causes.
Efforts are underway to arrange for the repatriation of the young boy’s body back to France. The incident has deeply affected the family, the crew, and fellow passengers onboard, marking a somber moment during their cruise experience.
