Royal Caribbean’s Star OTS Sets Sail for Sea Trials in Preparation for 2025 Launch

Royal Caribbean’s upcoming vessel, the Star of the Seas, has begun sea trials this week in the Baltic Sea. This ship is the second in the cruise line’s Icon Class and is under construction at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland. It’s slated for an August 2025 debut from Port Canaveral, Florida.

The sea trials, lasting 11 days, will see over 2,000 specialists from fields like naval architecture and engineering conducting various technical assessments. These tests include evaluations of propulsion, maneuverability, and engine performance, which are crucial for ensuring the ship is ready for service.

During these trials, the Star of the Seas will traverse several hundred nautical miles. After completing the tests, the ship will return to Turku for final construction and outfitting.

Upon entering service in mid-2025, the Star of the Seas will expand upon the designs of its sister ship, Icon of the Seas. It will showcase eight unique neighborhoods with diverse recreational and hospitality offerings, including high-speed waterslides, multiple pools for various experiences, and over 40 venues for dining and entertainment.

The Star of the Seas is expected to operate a series of 7-night cruises through the Eastern and Western Caribbean, visiting top destinations like Perfect Day at CocoCay in the Bahamas, a signature private island experience and a favorite among Royal Caribbean cruisers.
