Tragic Pediatric Medical Incident Strikes Costa Toscana During Mediterranean Cruise
On May 19, 2025, a tragic incident occurred aboard the Costa Toscana ship while it was traveling between Civitavecchia/Rome and Savona. A two-year-old boy, the son of a Chinese couple residing in France, suddenly collapsed while playing. Despite immediate medical intervention from the ship’s medical team, attempts to revive the child were unsuccessful.
Reports indicate that the boy had previously undergone heart surgery but had appeared to be in good health throughout the journey. After the incident, the cruise continued to Savona, where local authorities boarded the ship to investigate by interviewing the medical staff, crew, passengers, and the child’s parents.
Initial findings suggest that the child’s death was due to natural causes, likely related to his underlying heart condition. Arrangements for the repatriation of the body to France are underway. This heartbreaking event has deeply affected not only the family but also the crew and other passengers aboard the ship.
