The ASUKA III, Japan’s largest cruise ship, has achieved a significant milestone by completing its first liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering operation at the Singapore Cruise Centre. FueLNG Private Limited, a joint venture made up of Shell Singapore and Seatrium, managed the bunkering process. This event also highlights Shell’s first LNG supply to a cruise ship in the area, reflecting Singapore’s emerging role as a key player in sustainable maritime fuel solutions.

The ASUKA III, operated by NYK Cruises, measures 230 meters in length, 29.8 meters wide, and has a gross tonnage of 52,200. Delivered in April 2025, it features dual-fuel propulsion systems that allow the vessel to utilize both LNG and traditional marine fuels.

This event comes shortly after a similar LNG bunkering conducted for Silversea’s Silver Nova at the same terminal earlier in 2025. These examples illustrate the industry’s growing commitment to LNG as a transitional fuel, aiming to lower greenhouse gas emissions from maritime operations.
