HAL-Holland America Line Announces 2027 Voyages for Spectacular Celestial Events

Holland America Line has introduced a captivating lineup of cruises for 2027, designed for those eager to experience spectacular celestial events, including a total solar eclipse and the enchanting Northern Lights.

The total solar eclipse is set to occur on August 2, 2027, primarily over Northern Africa. To ensure passengers have the best vantage points, Holland America Line will position two of its ships—Nieuw Statendam and Oosterdam—off the coasts of Morocco and Tunisia.

The Nieuw Statendam will embark on a 28-day journey named "Legendary Solar Eclipse & Cosmic Port Explorer," departing from Rotterdam or Dover on July 10, 2027. This voyage will touch 13 ports across various countries, such as Denmark, the United Kingdom, France, Spain, Portugal, Gibraltar, and Morocco, with notable overnight stops in London (Tilbury) and Barcelona. Passengers will be at sea near Morocco during the eclipse, offering an unobstructed view of the phenomenon.

Meanwhile, Oosterdam will conduct a 14-day "Solar Eclipse & Astronomical Discovery" cruise, beginning on July 31, 2027, from Piraeus (Athens). The ship will be stationed off the coast of Tunisia for the eclipse viewing before visiting exciting ports in Tunisia, Malta, Italy, and Greece. There will be an extended stop in Valletta, Malta, where guests can visit the Royal Malta Observatory.

In addition to these eclipse-focused cruises, Holland America Line has also begun taking reservations for three 14-day Northern Lights voyages aboard Rotterdam and Nieuw Statendam in October and November 2027. These cruises will seriously delve into Norway’s Arctic north, spending significant time above the Arctic Circle and featuring an overnight stay in Alta, known as “The City of the Northern Lights.” Passengers can even opt for wake-up calls when the aurora borealis makes an appearance.
