HAL-Holland America Line Announces 2027 Voyage Itineraries to Experience Celestial Wonders

Holland America Line has unveiled plans for a series of unique cruises in 2027, promising passengers the chance to experience significant celestial events, including a total Solar Eclipse and the mesmerizing Northern Lights.

The total solar eclipse will occur on August 2, 2027, with the path of totality primarily passing over Northern Africa. To enhance viewing experiences, Holland America Line will redirect two of its cruise ships: Nieuw Statendam and Oosterdam. Nieuw Statendam will be stationed off the western coast of Morocco, while Oosterdam will be positioned off the eastern coast of Tunisia.

Nieuw Statendam’s cruise, titled "Legendary Solar Eclipse & Cosmic Port Explorer," will set sail on July 10, 2027, from either Rotterdam or Dover. This 28-day journey includes stops at 13 ports across Denmark, the UK, France, Spain, Portugal, Gibraltar, and Morocco. Passengers can enjoy overnight stays in Tilbury (near London) and Barcelona, with the ship being at sea off Morocco for an unobstructed view of the eclipse.

Oosterdam will offer a 14-day journey named "Solar Eclipse & Astronomical Discovery," departing from Piraeus (Athens) on July 31, 2027. This voyage will feature eclipse viewing off Tunisia’s coast, along with visits to ports in Tunisia, Malta, Italy, and Greece. Notably, the cruise will include an extended stay in Valletta, Malta, allowing guests an opportunity to explore the Royal Malta Observatory.

In addition to the eclipse cruises, Holland America Line is also taking bookings for three 14-day Northern Lights voyages aboard Rotterdam and Nieuw Statendam during October and November 2027. These voyages will navigate Norway’s Arctic north, spending five days above the Arctic Circle and featuring an overnight stop in Alta, renowned as “The City of the Northern Lights.” Passengers will have the option to receive wake-up calls when the aurora borealis is visible.
