Michigan Music Icon Becomes Official Godmother of New Royal Caribbean Cruise Ship
A music legend from Michigan, Diana Ross, has been named the official godmother of Royal Caribbean’s new cruise ship, the Star of the Seas, which is set to debut in August 2025. This ship is the second in the Icon class and will be the same size as the largest cruise ship in the world, the Icon of the Seas.
Diana Ross expressed her enthusiasm for the role, stating, “I am truly honored to join the Royal Caribbean family. Having spent years creating beautiful music and memories and bringing people together from all over the world, this feels like a perfect continuation of my journey as godmother of Star of the Seas." As godmother, Ross will partake in a maritime tradition, blessing the ship, its crew, and passengers.
Michael Bayley, CEO of Royal Caribbean, shared his excitement about Ross’s involvement, highlighting her status as an iconic artist who has united generations through her music.
The Star of the Seas boasts 20 decks, 18 of which are designated for guests, accommodating 5,610 passengers based on double occupancy with 2,805 staterooms. The ship will have a crew of 2,350 and measures 1,196 feet in length and 219 feet in width. It will embark on its maiden voyage on August 31, 2025.
