NCL’s Norwegian Viva Marks Its Maiden Call in Heraklion, Greece

The port of Heraklion, Greece, welcomed the Norwegian Viva, one of Norwegian Cruise Line’s advanced vessels from the Prima Class, on June 15, 2025, marking its first visit to the Cretan capital. A ceremonial plaque exchange took place aboard the ship, attended by notable figures including the CEO of the Heraklion Port Authority, Minas Papadakis, the Harbor Master and Hellenic Coast Guard Commander, Nikolaos Tsompanis, Captain Giorgio Voussolinos, and Staff Captain Santiago Filevich Sencion.

Norwegian Viva is set to visit Heraklion a total of 14 times throughout 2025, contributing to an overall of 23 visits by NCL ships, showcasing the brand’s growing confidence in Heraklion’s allure as a cruise destination. Mr. Papadakis noted that the regular calls by such a prestigious ship indicate the port’s increasing importance to major cruise lines. He expressed a commitment to continuously improving the port’s infrastructure and services to fulfill passenger and operational expectations.

The arrival of Norwegian Viva also strengthens the relationship between NCL and the port, providing a significant boost to the local economy while highlighting Heraklion and Crete as attractive cultural, historical, and culinary hotspots for thousands of visitors.
