Orient Express Corinthian Makes a Splash: Official Float Out at Saint-Nazaire

The Orient Express Corinthian, a luxury and sustainable yacht, was floated out on June 16 at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint‑Nazaire, France. This landmark event signifies a new era in maritime design and hospitality. The yacht measures 26,200 GT and 220 meters in length, making it the largest sail-equipped yacht in the Orient Express line, which operates under Accor.

Construction began in early 2024 with steel cutting, followed by the keel-laying in January 2025. The hull comprises 14 structural sections that are now being outfitted. The yacht features a balestron rig with three pivoting 100-meter masts, each designed to support approximately 1,500 m² of rigid sails, utilizing an innovative configuration called SolidSail, which allows for sail units to fold when not in use.

When the wind conditions are optimal, the Corinthian can operate solely on sail power, reaching speeds up to 17 knots. For additional propulsion, a hybrid system that combines LNG engines with future capabilities for green hydrogen will be employed. Advanced environmental technologies on board include dynamic positioning to prevent seabed disturbance, an AI-driven system that protects marine mammals, and chemical-free UV-based ballast treatment.

Accommodations on the yacht will include 54 suites, highlighted by a lavish presidential suite that spans nearly 1,000 m². The public areas will boast two swimming pools, five dining options curated by Michelin-starred chef Yannick Alléno, a speakeasy bar, an amphitheater-cabaret, a recording studio, a spa, and a cinema.

After undergoing sea trials in late 2025, the Corinthian is expected to be delivered in early 2026, with its maiden voyage scheduled for June. Initial itineraries will explore the Mediterranean and Adriatic before heading to the Caribbean for winter cruises.

This launch paves the way for future projects from Orient Express Sailing Yachts and Accor, including a sister ship, named Olympian, which is planned for summer 2027. The Corinthian embodies a blend of luxury and innovation, positioning itself at the forefront of sustainable sailing.
