Several Injured as Cruise Ship and Yacht Collide with Dock Piling

Several injuries were reported when a motor yacht named Timeless struck a dock piling in New York City while maneuvering to drop off passengers from a birthday celebration cruise. The incident occurred shortly after 4 PM on June 21, as the 154-foot, 484 gross ton yacht navigated the Hudson River. Passengers had been enjoying the party, but when the yacht drifted unexpectedly and slammed into the piling, about 35 individuals sustained minor injuries. Some required transportation to a local hospital for further evaluation.

US Coast Guard members who were in the area responded to the scene. The cause of the incident is currently under investigation; however, the US Coast Guard and city authorities highlighted that such accidents can occur rapidly, leaving little opportunity for corrective action by the captain.
