Three Injured in Collision Between Bus Carrying Ketchikan Cruise Ship Passengers and SUV
Three individuals sustained injuries, one of them critically, after a bus carrying 46 cruise ship passengers collided with an SUV early Thursday morning in Ketchikan. The incident occurred around 9 a.m. on the North Tongass Highway, and the Ketchikan Fire Department was quick to respond, assisted by local fire departments.
The school bus, transporting passengers from the Norwegian Bliss cruise ship, was heading south when it collided with the SUV, which subsequently struck a power pole. Due to the serious nature of the crash, an island-wide Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) response was initiated, triggering emergency protocols, including the mobilization of the hospital’s disaster plan.
Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and paramedics evaluated all passengers and drivers involved. After being assessed and cleared, 44 passengers were transported back to their cruise ship at Ward Cove. However, two passengers from the bus and the SUV driver were taken by ambulance to PeaceHealth Ketchikan Medical Center. One of the hospitalized individuals was reported to be in critical condition, while the others sustained minor injuries.
As updates are awaited, the Ketchikan Police Department is currently investigating the incident.
