Celebrating 15 Years of Adventure: Norwegian Epic’s Journey and Legacy

The Norwegian Epic has recently marked a significant milestone, completing 15 years of service. This impressive vessel was delivered to Norwegian Cruise Line on June 17, 2010, after being constructed at the STX France Shipyard, currently known as Chantiers de l’Atlantique, located in St. Nazaire, France.

Following its construction, the Norwegian Epic set out on a series of pre-inaugural cruises before embarking on its first major journey from Southampton, England, to New York City for a seven-night crossing. The ship was officially christened by entertainer Reba McEntire on July 2, 2010, in New York City, preceding its inaugural season starting July 10, 2010.

During its inaugural season, the ship, which has a capacity of 4,200 guests, operated from PortMiami offering alternating seven-night cruises to the Eastern and Western Caribbean, making notable stops in destinations such as Philipsburg (St. Maarten), Costa Maya (Mexico), Nassau (Bahamas), and Roatán (Honduras).

In 2011, the Norwegian Epic returned to Europe for its first summer season in the Mediterranean and later went back to Miami ahead of the 2011-2012 winter season. As of this year, the ship underwent a major refit at Chantier Naval de Marseille in France, where it debuted several new venues including an expanded Vice Beach Club and an updated Kid’s Aqua Park, along with the addition of eight new staterooms and enhancements to its deck spaces.

After the renovations, the Norwegian Epic launched a summer season in the Mediterranean from Civitavecchia, a port near Rome, with itineraries that include nine- and ten-night cruises to Greece and Malta, visiting ports like Valletta, Heraklion, Santorini, Piraeus, Katakolon, Argostoli, and Mykonos. In November, the ship is set to reposition to the Southern Caribbean, offering departures from San Juan, Puerto Rico.
