Louis Vuitton Launches Stunning Cruise Ship-Inspired Store: The Louis in Shanghai

Louis Vuitton has launched a striking new store in Shanghai, named The Louis, designed to resemble a cruise ship. Located in Taikoo Hui, on Nanjing West Road, the installation stands nearly 100 feet tall and aims to celebrate the brand’s rich history of creating luxury travel trunks.

The exterior showcases a cabin built from classic Louis Vuitton cases, and the hull features the brand’s iconic monogram, highlighting its connection to maritime culture. Spanning over 17,000 square feet across three levels, The Louis combines retail, exhibition, and hospitality spaces. The first two floors are dedicated to an exhibition highlighting the brand’s cultural heritage, while the top floor houses Le Café Louis Vuitton, which offers a curated menu of local and Western cuisines.

The design incorporates elements reflecting Shanghai’s significance as a port city and Louis Vuitton’s legacy in travel. Interactive features include artisan demonstrations in designated workshop areas, enhancing the visitor experience. The exhibition combines various thematic rooms, such as a Perfume Room with vintage items and a Sports Room featuring merchandise linked to major events like Formula 1 and the Olympics, concluding with a gift shop offering an array of luxury goods.

LVMH’s Greater China president, Wu Yue, noted that The Louis symbolically mirrors Shanghai’s maritime spirit and the brand’s tradition in travel. He described the installation as a bold reflection of Shanghai’s dynamic urban landscape.

Louis Vuitton Chairman and CEO, Pietro Beccari, emphasized that this store represents a new chapter in the brand’s cultural evolution, embodying the spirit of travel and inspiration.

The store officially opened on June 28, and its unique design is part of Louis Vuitton’s broader strategy to enhance its retail experience, following similar thematic strategies at other flagship locations around the world.
