Cruise Ship Fire Leads to Complete Cancellation of All Port Calls for Disabled Vessel

When planning a cruise through the eastern Mediterranean, guests often look forward to visiting various destinations and experiencing diverse cultures. However, guests aboard Celebrity Infinity faced an unexpected alteration in their itinerary. They were informed that they would be spending an extended duration in Kusadasi, Turkey, which means they will miss out on further scheduled stops in Mykonos, Kavala, and Thessaloniki.

On July 9, 2025, a letter delivered to guests outlined the situation: “At this time, we have made the difficult decision to adjust the remainder of our scheduled itinerary.” The ship would remain in Kusadasi until Friday at 3:00 PM before continuing to Athens for the originally planned debarkation on Saturday. This change was prompted by a small electrical fire and power outage that occurred while Celebrity Infinity was already docked in Kusadasi on July 7, necessitating additional repairs before the voyage could proceed.

Prior to this incident, guests had only one port of call — Santorini on July 6 — and with all other Greek ports now canceled, the trip has drastically changed.

To compensate for the inconvenience, Celebrity Cruises is offering guests a substantial refund. Each guest will receive an onboard credit equivalent to 50% of their cruise fare, which will be refundable at the end of the trip if unused. Additionally, guests will receive a future cruise credit for 50% of their fare, applicable toward any future sailing within the next year, allowing them to reschedule their missed cruise.

Shore excursions planned for Mykonos and Thessaloniki will be automatically canceled and refunds issued to guests’ onboard accounts. To enrich their stay, complimentary curated tours will be available to explore beyond Kusadasi and Ephesus, which can be booked through the Celebrity Cruises app.

While Celebrity Infinity is set to remain in Turkey for two more days, it is expected to reach Athens for debarkation, suggesting the ship is safe and seaworthy despite past issues. Concerns around the ship’s comfort, such as air conditioning failures and kitchen delays, have been reported, but there has been no indication of additional changes to Celebrity Infinity, and repairs are expected to be completed smoothly.
