Introducing Star of the Seas: Royal Caribbean’s Latest Addition to the Icon Class Fleet
Royal Caribbean International (RCI) has officially received its second Icon Class cruise ship, the Star of the Seas, during a delivery ceremony held at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku, Finland. This delivery, taking place just weeks before the ship’s inaugural voyage from Port Canaveral scheduled for August, marks the beginning of a new era in family cruising.
The delivery ceremony was attended by over 1,250 crew members, executives from Royal Caribbean and Meyer Turku, all gathered in the ship’s AquaTheater to celebrate the successful construction of the ship. The focus was on the teamwork that brought the Star of the Seas from initial design to completion. Meyer Turku’s CEO highlighted that the insights gained from creating the prototype, Icon of the Seas, had significantly sped up the construction process while improving quality.
The transfer of the ship’s ownership to Royal Caribbean also emphasized the ship’s impressive features, including the innovative AquaDome and six record-setting waterslides. Notably, Star of the Seas is powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), aligning with Royal Caribbean’s commitment to achieving a net-zero emissions fleet by 2035.
Once the ship is fully outfitted in Cádiz, Spain, it will embark on seven-night itineraries to the Eastern and Western Caribbean, visiting locations such as Royal Caribbean’s private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay.
Spanning over 1,190 feet in length, the ship will accommodate up to 7,600 guests and employ over 2,350 crew members, making it one of the largest cruise ships currently operational. It features eight distinct neighborhoods, which include a massive water park, relaxing pool areas, and the adults-only Hideaway with an infinity pool. In addition to these attractions, guests will also enjoy popular spaces such as the Royal Promenade and Central Park.
Royal Caribbean’s expansion plan continues with the upcoming launch of Legend of the Seas, the third ship in the Icon Class, anticipated to debut in 2026. The official naming ceremony for the Star of the Seas is set for August at Port Canaveral, with the renowned entertainer Diana Ross scheduled to be the ship’s Godmother.
