SAGA UK’s Spirit of the Moselle: A New Chapter in River Cruising Unveiled in Amsterdam

The UK-based SAGA Cruises celebrated the naming of its newest riverboat, Spirit of the Moselle, on June 30th in Amsterdam. This vessel is the third addition to Saga’s river fleet, following the Spirit of the Rhine and Spirit of the Danube. The christening ceremony was led by Louise Robinson, editor of Saga Magazine, who served as the ship’s godmother. She broke a champagne bottle against the hull, blessing the vessel in the presence of the captain, crew, and company leaders, including CEO Nigel Banks.

The Spirit of the Moselle extends 135 meters in length and can accommodate 172 guests across four decks, featuring 92 cabins—73 equipped with French balconies. The ship offers two dining options: the main Panorama Restaurant and the specialty Beilstein Restaurant, which reflects regional architecture and wine heritage.

Guests will also find a lounge with distinct areas, including a main bar, a Parisian-style café with self-service refreshments, and a library, along with a splash pool on the sun deck.

After the christening, the vessel embarked on an 8-day maiden voyage that explored Dutch waterways and the Rhine, with stops in Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam, and Cologne. Upcoming itineraries for the ship will see it traveling along the Main River in 2025, before transitioning to the Moselle in 2026. The Moselle River flows from France through Luxembourg and Germany, joining the Rhine at Koblenz.

Saga’s River Hotel Operations team has noted that the design of the Spirit of the Moselle draws inspiration from the works of J. M. W. Turner and the picturesque landscapes of the Moselle Valley, reflected in the ship’s interior palette and public spaces.
