Federal Operation Leads to Removal of Victory Cruise Lines Crew in the Great Lakes
During standard operations at the Port of Detroit, US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) removed thirteen crew members from Victory Cruise Lines’ ships, Victory I and Victory II, on July 9 and 11. These crew members were originally cleared to work in the United States and were recruited through third-party agencies. Their removal is connected to an ongoing federal investigation in the Great Lakes region, although the CBP has withheld specific details to protect the integrity of the operation.
Victory Cruise Lines, which started sailing again this spring under new ownership following the previous shutdown of American Queen Voyages, is fully cooperating with the authorities during this investigation. The company’s founder and chairman, John Waggoner, emphasized that the welfare of the crew and the guest experience are top priorities. Waggoner and other executives are currently on board the vessels to address the situation effectively. Other cruise operators in the area have reported similar crew removals.
Despite these events, both Victory I and Victory II continue to operate their scheduled itineraries across the Great Lakes and into New England and Canada for the fall season.
