National Geographic–Lindblad Expeditions Expands Galápagos Fleet with Delfina and Gemini

In a significant event held on July 10, 2025, in Santa Cruz Island’s Academy Bay, National Geographic–Lindblad Expeditions celebrated the arrival of its two newest expedition ships: the National Geographic Delfina and the National Geographic Gemini. The dual naming ceremony emphasized community involvement, highlighting the strong connections Lindblad has with the Galápagos region.

The ceremony featured participation from local dignitaries, long-time residents, shipboard team members, and their families, all witnessing the traditional bottle-breaking ritual—a gesture symbolizing Lindblad’s commitment to the local environment and its conservation efforts.

Natalya Leahy, CEO of Lindblad Expeditions Holdings, underscored the significance of the event as a reflection of the company’s dedication to the Galápagos’ people and ecosystem. She pointed out that this occasion marks nearly 60 years of partnership, characterized by community support and environmental initiatives.

The National Geographic Delfina, a 98-foot luxury catamaran, is built to host 16 guests in eight staterooms, with select rooms featuring private balconies. Designed for intimate excursions, it offers amenities like an open-air Observation Deck, outdoor dining options, Zodiacs, paddleboards, and snorkeling gear for exploration.

In contrast, the National Geographic Gemini is a larger expedition ship catering to 48 passengers with 28 outside cabins, including suites with private balconies. It boasts numerous amenities such as a spa, fitness center, whirlpool hot tub, and an outdoor café alongside comprehensive exploration equipment.

Both ships have already commenced operations this year, contributing to Lindblad’s fleet of five vessels navigating the Galápagos waters. They are manned by experienced Ecuadorian and Galapagueño crews who carry on the legacy of expedition cruising, promising immersive and environmentally responsible travel experiences.

The naming ceremony solidifies Lindblad’s role as a leader in modern expedition travel within this distinctive ecosystem, furthering the deep connection it shares with the Galápagos, its inhabitants, and the future of conservation in the region.
