Virgin Voyages Fleet Celebrates Portsmouth Reunion Ahead of Exciting Sailing Season

Portsmouth International Port is set to welcome the entire Virgin Voyages fleet this summer, marking a significant moment as the port becomes the first worldwide to host all ships from this adults-only cruise line. The Scarlet Lady is scheduled to return on July 27, followed by her sister ship, the Brilliant Lady, on August 22. This development is expected to provide a considerable economic boost to the region.

Each ship’s arrival carries a hefty economic impact, contributing approximately GBP 1.5 million from direct port fees, local supply activities, and passenger spending. The port, run by the local council, is projected to generate around GBP 10.3 million in profits this year, which will help fund essential community services and local infrastructure projects.

The partnership between Virgin Voyages and Portsmouth began in 2021 with the inaugural journey of the Scarlet Lady. Since then, over 72,000 passengers have used the port, leading to significant growth in cruise traffic in the area. With the introduction of the Resilient Lady in her inaugural UK season and multiple return visits, Portsmouth has solidified its status as a top home port.

Councillor Steve Pitt, Leader of Portsmouth City Council, noted the extensive benefits of enhanced trade for local businesses and increased visibility on a national scale, expressing pride in Portsmouth being chosen as a long-term operational base for Virgin.

Port Director Mike Sellers highlighted the successful partnership with Virgin Voyages and noted that this season is anticipated to be the busiest yet, with more than 90 ship calls expected. This expansion also introduces a new customer demographic to the city.

Virgin Voyages CEO Nirmal Saverimuttu remarked that Portsmouth has become a cornerstone of the Virgin experience. The presence of the Scarlet Lady and later the Brilliant Lady marks pivotal points in the brand’s journey, with Portsmouth’s shared maritime values and strong support playing a crucial role in their global growth.

This sailing season will feature voyages ranging from 6 to 13 nights, traveling to a range of destinations including Reykjavik and Morocco, along with themed celebrations and comedy cruises.
