SAGA UK’s Newest Riverboat, Spirit of the Moselle, Officially Christened in Amsterdam
SAGA Cruises, a UK-based cruise line, celebrated the christening of its newest riverboat, the Spirit of the Moselle, in Amsterdam on June 30th. This event marked the introduction of the third purpose-built vessel in Saga’s river fleet, joining the Spirit of the Rhine and Spirit of the Danube.
Louise Robinson, the editor of Saga Magazine, had the honor of serving as the ship’s godmother. During a traditional ceremony, she broke a champagne bottle against the hull, blessing the ship in front of the captain, crew, and Saga leadership, including CEO Nigel Banks. She expressed her pride in being a part of this significant milestone for the Saga cruise team.
The Spirit of the Moselle is 135 meters long and can accommodate 172 guests across four decks, featuring 92 cabins, with 73 of those having French balconies. It offers two dining options: the main Panorama Restaurant and the specialty Beilstein Restaurant, designed to reflect regional architecture and wine heritage.
Guests can also enjoy a lounge that includes a main bar, a Parisian-style café with self-service beverages, a library, and a splash pool on the sun deck.
The ship embarked on an 8-day maiden voyage that traversed the Dutch waterways and the Rhine, stopping at destinations including Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam, and Cologne. Future itineraries will see her navigating the Main River during the 2025 season and transitioning to the Moselle in 2026. The Moselle River flows from France through Luxembourg and Germany, converging with the Rhine at Koblenz.
Saga’s River Hotel Operations team highlighted that the ship’s design draws inspiration from the works of J. M. W. Turner and the picturesque landscapes of the Moselle Valley, reflecting these elements in the interior decor and public spaces.
In line with Saga’s all-inclusive boutique river cruise experience—which encompasses dining, beverages, excursions, Wi-Fi, gratuities, and chauffeur services—the Spirit of the Moselle reinforces the cruise line’s focus on creating comfortable and enriching journeys tailored for guests over 50.
