Carnival Dream to Make New Orleans its Homeport in 2027: What Travelers Need to Know

Carnival Cruise Line (CCL) announced that its ship, Carnival Dream, will move to New Orleans in May 2027, becoming the second vessel homeported there alongside Carnival Liberty. This strategic relocation aims to enhance local tourism and economic growth, leveraging Carnival Dream’s capacity to hold 3,646 passengers, significantly more than the vessel it replaces.

Before its shift to New Orleans, Carnival Dream will wrap up two sailings from Galveston in early May 2027: a Western Caribbean voyage that stops at Belize, Cozumel, and Isla Tropicale/Roatan, and a Bahamas cruise visiting Celebration Key, Key West, and Nassau. The ship’s operations in New Orleans will commence on May 16, 2027, featuring 4- and 5-day cruises to Mexican destinations.

Meanwhile, Carnival Liberty will continue its operations from New Orleans until April 2028, offering various itineraries including 7-day Western Caribbean and trips to the Bahamas. Highlighted routes will feature ports such as Celebration Key, Key West, and Grand Cayman, alongside special holiday cruises and a comprehensive 14-day Panama Canal voyage in November 2027.

Carnival Liberty recently undertook enhancements during a European dry dock, introducing amenities like a new water park, mini-golf course, improved youth areas, and updated retail options.

This movement of Carnival Dream marks the first phase in a series of ship redeployments planned through spring 2028, with further homeport announcements and itineraries anticipated soon.
