Ponant Unveils Exciting French Polynesia Itineraries for Le Jacques Cartier (2026-2027)

Ponant Explorations Group is set to launch winter voyages aboard the Le Jacques Cartier in French Polynesia during the 2026–2027 season, which will complement the long-standing operations of the Paul Gauguin in the region. The Explorer-class ship will introduce two new 14-night itineraries, departing roundtrip from Papeete, from October 2026 to February 2027.

These voyages promise to go beyond the usual tourist routes, allowing guests to explore the remote Gambier and Austral Islands, locations that rarely see cruise ships. Alongside the well-known Society Islands, Tuamotus, and Marquesas, these itineraries will provide a comprehensive exploration of French Polynesia’s vast archipelago, accessible only via smaller expedition-class vessels.

Samuel Chamberlain, CEO of the Americas for Ponant Explorations Group, highlighted that the deployment of Le Jacques Cartier offers "a new perspective—more remote and more expeditionary," distinguishing it from The Gauguin’s more traditional voyages. This expansion is set to bolster Ponant’s leadership in the region while preserving its reputation for authenticity, elegance, and adventure.

The inaugural voyage, named "Secret Polynesia: Society to Austral Islands," will embark on October 18 and December 13, 2026, covering the Tuamotus, Gambier, and Austral Islands. The second itinerary, "From French Polynesia to Pitcairn Island," is scheduled for November 15, 2026, navigating through the Tuamotus and Gambier towards the historic Pitcairn.

Throughout the fall and winter of 2026–2027, Le Jacques Cartier will sail alongside Paul Gauguin, offering a heightened expedition format that expands Ponant’s offerings in Polynesia, inviting travelers to discover the unseen treasures of this beautiful archipelago.
