SAGA UK’s Spirit of the Moselle: A New Era of River Cruising Unveiled in Amsterdam

The UK-based SAGA Cruises held a christening for its newest river vessel, Spirit of the Moselle, in Amsterdam on June 30th, prior to its inaugural voyage. This ship is the third addition to the Saga Group’s fleet, following the Spirit of the Rhine and Spirit of the Danube. The ceremony honored the ship’s ties to the Moselle River, with Louise Robinson, editor of Saga Magazine, serving as the godmother. She performed the traditional champagne-breaking on the hull, expressing pride in marking this significant event with the Saga team.

Measuring 135 meters, the Spirit of the Moselle accommodates 172 passengers across four decks and boasts 92 cabins, including 73 with French balconies. The vessel features two dining options: the main Panorama Restaurant and the Beilstein Restaurant, which reflects the local architectural and viticultural heritage.

Onboard amenities include a lounge with three sections—a bar, a Parisian-style café offering self-service refreshments, and a library—as well as a splash pool located on the sun deck.

After the christening, the ship embarked on an 8-day inaugural voyage through the Dutch waterways and the Rhine, making stops in Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam, and Cologne. Future itineraries for 2025 will cover the Main River, while plans for 2026 will take her along the Moselle, which flows from France through Luxembourg and Germany, before joining the Rhine at Koblenz.

The design of the Spirit of the Moselle was inspired by the artworks of J. M. W. Turner and the scenic beauty of the Moselle Valley, evident in the interior color schemes and public spaces.
