Royal Caribbean Takes Charge of Costa Maya Port Ahead of Exciting ‘Perfect Day Mexico’ Experience

Port Costa Maya in Mahahual, Mexico, is now under the management of Royal Caribbean Group as they prepare to develop a new private destination called Perfect Day Mexico. The company acquired the port and 34 surrounding properties for approximately $292 million and assumed operational control on July 11, enabling a major redevelopment plan valued at over $600 million.

The construction will take place while ensuring that current cruise operations continue uninterrupted, allowing all cruise lines to access the port. However, certain areas of the new destination will be exclusive to guests of Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises. Perfect Day Mexico aims to enhance the region by transforming over 200 acres of coastline into a vibrant guest experience, featuring a large waterpark, the world’s longest lazy river, adults-only beach and pool areas, dining options, entertainment zones, and cultural elements reflecting Mexico’s Caribbean heritage.

This new destination will also be integrated with the Tren Maya tourist rail system, improving accessibility to the broader region. Royal Caribbean is committed to sustainable development, working with local communities and environmental groups to restore coastal ecosystems and support local employment.

The opening of Perfect Day Mexico is expected in late 2027. This initiative marks a significant expansion of cruise-owned infrastructure, reminiscent of the successful Perfect Day at CocoCay, and it positions Mahahual as a future hub for Western Caribbean itineraries. Under Royal Caribbean’s stewardship, Costa Maya is evolving from a shared port into a unique terminal that caters to multiple cruise lines while providing a customized destination experience for the company’s guests.
