Storm Floris Causes Service Disruption on Irish Sea Ferry Routes

Adverse weather from Storm Floris has severely disrupted ferry services in the Irish Sea, particularly affecting travel between the Isle of Man and north-west England. Gale-force winds led to the cancellation of the morning and afternoon fast-craft crossings of the vessel Manannan between Douglas and Liverpool on Monday.

The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company’s main vessel, Manxman, managed to leave Douglas for Heysham as planned at 08:30 BST, though a return journey scheduled for 14:15 may face delays depending on the sea conditions. Initially, a yellow wind warning had been issued, forecasting gusts of up to 50 mph (80 km/h), but this alert has since been lifted, indicating that the worst conditions have passed.

Despite progress, operational changes are still in effect. The Steam Packet Company has stated that the 16:00 sailing of Manannan will go ahead but is expected to take about 30 minutes longer than the usual time. A travel advisory recommended caution, emphasizing the unpredictable nature of the weather and stating that further disruptions or cancellations remain a possibility. Passengers with reservations for Monday have the option to adjust their travel plans without incurring extra fees.
