Disney Destiny: The Newest Disney Cruise Line Ship Floats Out at the Shipyard!

Disney Cruise Line recently reached a significant milestone with the launch of its latest ship, the Disney Destiny, which was floated out into the harbor at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany on August 9, 2025. This marks an essential step in preparing the third ship of the Wish class for its Florida debut this fall from Port Everglades.

Hero Minnie welcomed the vessel, leading it out first through the yard with Spider-Man and his Spider Bots. The Disney Destiny, which weighs 144,000 gross tons, was towed out stern-first by tugboats, fitting through the shipyard’s narrow entrance with just three feet of clearance on either side.

This new ship promises an array of Marvel-themed attractions, including a statue of T’Challa, the Black Panther, in the Grand Hall, an entertainment parlor inspired by Doctor Strange, and a revamped version of the World of Marvel restaurant. It will also feature a venue themed around Cruella de Vil and a stage show based on Hercules.

The Disney Destiny is a sister ship to the Disney Wish and Disney Treasure, which are currently docked at Port Canaveral. However, it will embark on its maiden voyage from Fort Lauderdale on November 20, followed by a season of four- and five-night cruises to the Bahamas and Western Caribbean. This will be the first time a Disney ship is introduced at a port other than Port Canaveral, after Disney took over operations of Port Everglades’ Terminal 4 in 2023 as a second Florida home for its cruise line.

Upon its delivery, the Disney Destiny will be the seventh ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet. The ships in this class are larger than the previous Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy but maintain the same passenger capacity of 4,000 guests. The next stage for the Disney Destiny involves a 20-mile voyage along the Ems River to Eemshaven, Netherlands, where it will undergo sea trials in the North Sea before being officially handed over to the cruise line.

The ship’s construction began in November 2023, with the first steel cut and keel laying occurring in early 2024. Additionally, Disney plans to expand its fleet further, with the upcoming delivery of the Disney Adventure for Singapore by year-end and an aim to grow the fleet to 13 ships by 2031.
