Port Canaveral Welcomes Royal Caribbean’s Star on Its Maiden Voyage

Canaveral Port Authority recently welcomed the Royal Caribbean’s Star of the Seas during its maiden visit, commemorating the occasion with a traditional plaque exchange. This event, held on August 12, highlighted the ship’s new homeport and kicked off a series of inaugural celebrations.

Key figures in attendance included Canaveral Port Authority CEO Capt. John Murray, Board Chairman Admiral Wayne Justice (USCG-Ret.), and Commissioner Kevin Markey, along with the ship’s captain, Rob Hempstead, and his officers. The Star of the Seas made its initial arrival on August 9, 2025, marking a significant milestone in the long-standing partnership between Royal Caribbean and the port.

Capt. Murray expressed pride in the collaboration, emphasizing that the new ship will enhance the cruise offerings from Port Canaveral, catering to growing demand. The Star of the Seas, a 248,663-ton vessel, is set to embark on its maiden voyage from the port on August 16, 2025. An official naming ceremony will follow on August 20, led by renowned singer Diana Ross, who will be the vessel’s godmother.

Following the christening, the ship will commence seven-night cruises to the Eastern and Western Caribbean starting from August 31, 2025. The Star of the Seas joins several other Royal Caribbean ships already stationed at Port Canaveral, which include the Utopia of the Seas, Explorer of the Seas, Harmony of the Seas, and Adventure of the Seas.

Additionally, the port authority will host a celebration for the first departure of the Star of the Seas on August 16 at Jetty Park, featuring food trucks, giveaways, music, and more. This family-friendly party is set to begin at 3:30 PM, with free attendance, although parking passes for Jetty Park must be purchased in advance.
