Porto Cruise Terminal Achieves Record Turnaround Series for TUI’s Mein Schiff 4
Porto Cruise Terminal, located at Port Leixões in Portugal, has successfully established itself as a significant player in Northern Portugal’s cruise tourism sector by completing a remarkable string of five consecutive turnaround operations for TUI Cruises’ Mein Schiff 4 from June 19 to July 17. This achievement marked the largest turnaround series ever undertaken at the port.
Throughout this five-week period, the terminal facilitated the movement of 23,351 passengers and around 4,500 crew members, resulting in 10,327 passengers embarking, 10,185 disembarking, and 2,839 transit passengers, predominantly from Germany, which is a leading market for the region.
Mein Schiff 4, built in 2015 by Meyer Turku Shipyard, is a 293-meter-long vessel with a gross tonnage of 99,500. Operated by TUI Cruises, it caters mainly to German-speaking travelers, providing a premium experience with a capacity for roughly 2,700 guests and 1,000 crew members.
During its homeporting in Porto, Mein Schiff 4 sailed various itineraries along the Atlantic coast, stopping at key locations such as Bilbao, Le Verdon-sur-Mer, La Coruña, Vigo, Gibraltar, Tangier, Cádiz, and Lisbon. These turnaround operations not only reaffirmed Porto’s status as a pivotal embarkation point but also played a vital role in boosting the local economy, attracting visitors eager to explore the city’s diverse landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and gastronomy.
Most passengers arrived via weekly charter flights from several German cities, with itineraries designed to allow them to experience Porto and its surroundings. Looking forward, growth is anticipated in 2026, as Mein Schiff 6 is scheduled to perform 11 turnaround operations from July to September, bringing in nearly 50,000 guests for embarkation and disembarkation.
