Cruise Ships Alter Course to Steer Clear of Hurricane Erin

Cruise ships originally scheduled to visit Bermuda have altered their routes due to Hurricane Erin, leading to significant changes for passengers looking forward to the trip. Royal Caribbean’s Vision of the Seas, which departed from Maryland, redirected to Port Canaveral as the hurricane made its approach.

One passenger, Sherry Teycer, expressed disappointment at the change but recognized the importance of safety, noting, "We’d rather be safe. It is disappointing because we wanted to be in Bermuda. But I see the hurricane is heading right there."

Similar adjustments were made by Carnival Cruise Line. The Carnival Sunshine, expected to embark on a six-day cruise with two days planned in Bermuda, has been rerouted to include stops at Carnival’s new private island, Celebration Key, and Nassau in the Bahamas instead.

In an email to its guests, Carnival shared their regret over the itinerary change, emphasizing safety as the priority: "We know you were looking forward to visiting Bermuda and share your disappointment for this weather-related change of plans, but trust you will agree that your safety takes priority."

Despite the unforeseen detours, passenger Tavis Graves maintained a positive outlook, saying, "You have no choice but to be positive…there’s plenty of things to do on the ship, so we’ll be alright.
