Man-Overboard Alarm Disrupts Royal Caribbean’s Star OTS Preview at CocoCay

During a preview cruise of the Star of the Seas on August 14th, an unexpected man-overboard alarm disrupted activities at Royal Caribbean’s private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay. The alarm rang out shortly after 8 a.m. when a guest accidentally fell from the pier that connects the Star of the Seas and its sister ship, the Symphony of the Seas.

Eyewitnesses stated that the individual lost his footing while attempting to take a video of the ship with his mobile phone and fell into the water. Fortunately, he was able to grab hold of a life ring thrown by the crew members.

A quick-response rescue team was dispatched, and the guest was swiftly pulled from the water via jet ski and brought back to the shore. Reports indicated that there were no serious injuries sustained during the incident.

Royal Caribbean affirmed that the guest fell while filming the Star of the Seas, and they confirmed the prompt action taken by the crew to ensure his safety. This incident occurred during the vessel’s inaugural preview journey from Port Canaveral. The Star of the Seas is the second ship in Royal Caribbean’s Icon-class fleet, recently sharing dock space with the Symphony of the Seas, which was on a week-long itinerary in the Bahamas from Cape Liberty.
