Norwegian Cruise Line Unveils Plans to Transform Great Stirrup Cay into a Tropical Paradise

NCL (Norwegian Cruise Line) is set to embark on an extensive transformation of its private island, Great Stirrup Cay, located in the Bahamas. Central to this overhaul is the upcoming Great Tides Waterpark, which will span nearly six acres and is expected to open in the summer of 2026. This waterpark will feature a 170-foot Tidal Tower equipped with eight distinct waterslides, an 800-foot dynamic river with a swift current and bioluminescent grotto, a family slide for four riders, and cliff-jumping platforms of 10 and 15 feet, marking a first for the cruise industry.

Other significant enhancements to the island include a new multi-ship pier to eliminate reliance on tender operations, a heated swimming area named the Great Life Lagoon spread across 1.4 acres with two swim-up bars, a dedicated family splash zone, and the adults-only Vibe Shore Club for a tranquil retreat. Additional features will encompass an oversized splash pad for kids, recreational areas like Horizon Park with lawn games and mini-golf, and Hammock Bay, which will offer numerous hammocks for relaxation with ocean views.

To promote the revamped offerings, NCL has initiated a multi-channel marketing campaign titled “Escape to the Great Life,” developed in partnership with the creative agency Super Nice. This campaign, which commenced on July 29, 2025, involves diverse advertising formats including television and digital ads, over 250 outdoor placements, and immersive activations in key cities such as New York and Miami. The campaign also features a sweepstakes for guests to win stays on the renovated island, utilizing a creative “Escape Hatch” concept aimed at merging the digital and physical experiences.

With these enhancements and comprehensive marketing strategies, NCL aims to elevate Great Stirrup Cay’s reputation within the Caribbean cruise sector, anticipating to welcome over one million guests to the island by late 2026—more than double the current visitor levels.
