Tragic Incident: 27-Year-Old Galley Steward Falls Overboard from Sun Princess in the Dardanelles Strait

A tragic incident occurred on August 20, 2025, when a 27-year-old Kenyan Galley Steward aboard the Sun Princess reportedly went overboard in the Dardanelles Strait. The fall was captured in CCTV footage, prompting the ship’s captain and crew to activate emergency protocols immediately.

Search efforts were launched in coordination with local maritime rescue authorities, deploying multiple boats to scour the area for hours, but unfortunately, the crew member has not yet been located.

Following the incident, the vessel was instructed to remain near Tekirdag, Turkey, allowing local officials to conduct their investigation. This extended stay resulted in a postponed arrival in Istanbul to the afternoon of August 21, leading to the cancellation of a scheduled visit to Mykonos on August 22, with all pre-booked excursions being refunded.

The captain expressed deep sorrow over the incident in a message to those on board, affirming that the safety of passengers and crew is the top priority. The Family Assistance team from Princess Cruises has begun providing support to the steward’s family. Additionally, specially trained counselors were made available on the ship to help both guests and crew cope during this difficult time.
