Legend of the Seas Set to Sail: Float Out Ceremony at Meyer Turku

Meyer Turku held a celebratory float out ceremony for Royal Caribbean’s new cruise ship, Legend of the Seas, on August 29, 2025. This event featured speeches from representatives of both the shipyard and Royal Caribbean, a traditional gun salute, and a fun competition to open the construction basin’s water valves.

Following the ceremony, the 250,800-ton ship was relocated to the outfitting dock where the final touches will be applied over the next year. The CEO of Meyer Turku, Casimir Lindholm, emphasized the ship’s significance, noting that it showcases the Finnish maritime industry’s expertise and marks a step towards responsible shipbuilding.

The Legend of the Seas measures 365 meters in length and nearly 50 meters in width, making it the third vessel in Royal Caribbean’s Icon Class. The fleet began with Icon of the Seas, delivered in November 2023, and followed by Star of the Seas in July 2025. A fourth unnamed Icon Class ship is currently under construction and is slated for completion in 2027.

Royal Caribbean has options with Meyer Turku for additional Icon Class ships, with the Legend of the Seas set to commence its inaugural season in the Mediterranean. Scheduled for delivery in summer 2026, it will begin its voyages in Europe before moving to the United States for Caribbean sailings during the winter season of 2026-27.
