Disney Adventure: DCL’s Largest Ship Embarks on Sea Trials from Wismar

On the evening of September 1st, 2025, Disney Cruise Line (DCL) marked a significant milestone as its newest vessel, Disney Adventure, departed from Wismar, Germany, to commence its sea trials. This event concluded a lengthy and challenging construction period at the Wismar yard, plagued by the collapse of Genting Hong Kong and the bankruptcy of the original builder, MV Werften. Now constructed under the supervision of Meyer Werft, Disney Adventure is among the largest in the world, boasting a tonnage of 208,000 GT.

Originally scheduled to launch earlier in the weekend, the departure was delayed first to Sunday, then to Monday, due to navigational challenges stemming from low water levels in the Bay of Wismar and strong winds. Finally, at 18:30 local time, all other traffic was cleared from the port, allowing the 1,122-foot ship to begin its maneuvering with the assistance of a fleet of tugs and her bow thrusters.

Before entering the North Sea for sea trials, Disney Adventure made a brief stop at Mukran on Rügen Island to take on water and supplies. The ship is expected to reach Bremerhaven around September 8th for additional outfitting, with the final completion to be concluded in early October when the ship will officially be handed over to the DCL.

Disney Adventure stands out not only for its size but also for being DCL’s largest ship and the first in its fleet to be powered by green methanol, a more environmentally friendly fuel option that significantly reduces carbon dioxide emissions.
