
HAL’s MS Zuiderdam Provides Assistance to Sailing Yacht Atlaya
While on a week-long journey from Boston to Quebec City, the Holland America Line vessel, MS Zuiderdam, received an urgent distress message from the U.S. Coast Guard’s Sector Boston. The call reported that the sailing yacht Atlaya was taking on water approximately 10 miles off the coast.
In a swift response, the Zuiderdam altered its course and reached the stranded yacht within about 35 minutes. The two individuals aboard Atlaya were safely rescued and later transferred to a Coast Guard cutter, with no injuries reported.
After ensuring the safety of those in distress, the Zuiderdam continued on its original route, arriving smoothly at Portland, Maine as scheduled.
